An engagement shoot at The Compasses at Pattiswick
This is the week we start our wedding season of 2019 so what better blog to share than the engagement shoot of Marjanne & Rob who get married very very soon.
For their engagement shoot we met at their chosen venue, The Compasses at Pattiswick, on a rather bleak and blustery January day.
We term our engagement shoots as pre-wedding shoots or practice shoots. It’s common for couples to feel slightly self-conscious in front of the camera. Let’s be honest it’s not an every day occurence to be photographed by a professional photographer. We understand. We’re both the same in front of the camera so we really do get it.
Organising a pre-wedding shoot means we can get rid of any nerves and uncertainty. On the big day you will be feeling calm and relaxed. There’s no extra charge for our engagement shoots. (Both our emerald and diamond packages include an engagement shoot). We find them just as worthwhile as the couple. It’s a great opportunity to get to know you a bit better. We get to see what poses suit you best and what basically works best for you.
We suggest to our couples that an engagement shoot takes place 4-6 weeks before their wedding day. The venue and its surroundings will look as similar as possible to how it will be on the big day. If it’s a spring wedding then blossom and flowers will be in bloom, a summer wedding might include a wheat field and a winter wedding is going to be fires and interior shots.
As this couple, Marjanne & Rob, have a February wedding a January engagement shoot was ideal.
Marjanne and Robert were keen to brave the weather so we started the session outside. It’s fair to say it was a typical British January day with grey bleak skies and a strong cold wind. If the couple are game, we certainly are!
After some photographs outside we all headed back inside to the welcoming warmth and cosiness of The Compasses at Pattiswick. The thought of a roaring log fire was soon calling us all!
Again as they have a February wedding we have to think what the weather conditions could be on their wedding day. The chances are it will be a little chilly so most of the wedding is going to take place indoors.
Part of the charm of their venue, The Compasses at Pattiswick, is the intimate, cosy atmosphere so we definitely want to capture this in our images. With log fires, wooden beams and bare brick walls the venue is full of character so perfect for some romantic cosy photographs.
The engagement shoot photographs are shared with the couple in a password protected gallery on our website. The couple can share and download the images from this gallery. We are often delighted to see some of these photographs used by couples on their wedding day – some use them around the venue and some have used them in guest books for everyone to write their congratulations messages. We love seeing how creative our couples can be.
