As we prepare for an exciting open day at The Compasses at Pattiswick we thought we would put together a blog with lots of the lovely images we have taken over the past year or so at this charming bespoke wedding venue in the heart of the Essex countryside.
Once a gastro pub, The Compasses is located in a beautiful rural spot surrounded by fields and trees. Perfect for those dreamy romantic couple shots in the fields that we so love. These fields surround The Compasses both front and back so we don’t even have to take much time out of your special day to create some beautiful photographs.
Positioned on a small country lane, amazingly the passing traffic is almost non-existent, yet is only a 10 minute drive from Braintree town centre. This means we are able to get some lovely shots of couples wandering along the lane without a car or two appearing in the background. We also don’t have to contend with any embarrassing hooting from impatient drivers!
The team at The Compasses at Pattiswick have created a homely relaxed atmosphere with lots of rustic charm and have very much maintained the country pub feel. Think wooden beams, open fire, Shaker style dresser, a well-loved old piano and exposed brick walls.
Inside the ceremony/ dining room is light and airy with windows all along the outside wall. The beams are decorated with twinkly fairy lights.
This venue prides itself on bespoke and alternative weddings where couples have the choice rather than the venue dictating. We have photographed Compasses weddings where the couple have chosen an unconventional buffet style meal and a wedding with summer BBQ themed food, without a seating plan instead preferring a relaxed style where their guests grabbed a chair wherever they chose.
Other brides and grooms choose a more traditional three course wedding breakfast and we for one can vouch for absolutely delicious food (with lovely vegetarian options too).
The Compasses at Pattiswick style often attracts couples with an easy-going attitude looking for a relaxed vibe. We both work in a very relaxed unobtrusive style and our entire ethos is that it is your wedding day not a photo shoot. Happy to blend in and go with the flow, we capture the emotions of the day as it unfolds. We prefer to avoid the over manipulated orchestrated style of photography. One of our biggest compliments is when a guest says ‘we didn’t even notice you.’ If you take a look at some of the lovely words our couples have written over on our praise page it will give you a great insight into our style and most importantly what ‘real bride & grooms’ think.
Finally we MUST mention the rather spectacular ‘Pattiswick Sunsets.’ The location and rural setting means that this venue is regularly treated to beautiful sunsets. The sun sets below the fields opposite so there is an unobstructed view as the sky lights up with vivid colours. The last wedding we shot at The Compasses at the very end of October last year saw the sky alight with fire reds and burnt oranges. It was absolutely stunning.
We hope you can see that we absolutely love photographing weddings at this unique venue.
