Favourite Five wedding photographs - The Compasses at Pattiswick

Welcome to the second instalment of our Favourite Five Wedding Photographs series.

In case you missed our first of these blogs, we have been asking our couples to choose their favourite five wedding photographs and explain why these images in particular are special.

Our wonderful brides & grooms have not let us down and their responses have been particularly poignant as we enter a second national lock-down. It’s been a very difficult time for everyone and the wedding industry has been affected hugely. Stressed couples have been forced to postpone their weddings, many on numerous times as restrictions regularly change.

Reading couple’s sentiments has been a real joy for us and has certainly lifted our spirits. Hearing about the emotions couples feel when they look at their wedding photographs has helped reinforce why we love our job as wedding photographers.

We have loved seeing the selections that couples have made. So many of these images demonstrate our story-telling style perfectly – they are often photographs that have been captured candidly & show all the love and happiness of truly natural moments.

Rob & Marjanne are our second couple to feature in this series. They both work in the theatre and they brought their talents together to make their February wedding a creative & colourful day. Their day at The Compasses at Pattiswick was full of warmth, happiness & fun and it was a joy to photograph.

Let’s take a look at Rob & Marjanne’s Favourite Five Wedding Photographs, accompanied by their own words.

Reportage Essex wedding photography showing an emotional groom favourite five wedding photographs

This picture is actually my (Marjanne’s) mum’s favourite because of the breadth of emotions Laura and Dan managed to capture in one photo. The registrar had told Rob to face front until dad and I were in position, and as soon as he saw me he burst into tears. Being the supportive partner I am, I of course started laughing, while my dad was busy drinking in the happiness of the moment.

Rob and I love a silly photo, and we knew that Laura and Dan were the photographers for us because they’re so great at taking candid photos like this one! We love the beautifully posed pictures they took of us, but this photo transports me back to how giddy we were, and it shows our personalities, as well as being a beautiful photo.

We have this picture hanging up at home. We got so lucky on our wedding day. Despite it being February, it was lovely and warm and the sunset was stunning. It was such a beautiful moment of calm amidst all the boisterousness.

Reportage wedding photography

This is my all-time favourite wedding photo. I can’t even remember what we were talking about, but we were waiting to be announced for the first time and I just remember being so happy and giddy I thought I was going to explode! It’s so lovely having a photo to remember the little moments like that, and not just the big ticket items.

Our first dance was to “I wanna dance with somebody” by Whitney Houston, and the whole thing was a celebration of friendship. Rob plays in various bands, and they all banded together to play and sing for us. One of my bridesmaids helped us “choreograph” (using that term very loosely!) and by the end of the song everyone was up and dancing! In hindsight I should have had a practice in my wedding dress… but it was fab!

A huge thank you to Marjanne & Rob for taking part in our Favourite Five series. Their big day was our first wedding that year & a winter wedding full of colour & warmth was just what we needed to start our season!
